Out of my Comfort Zone: Uganda Week 2

Continuing on from my last post, here is the goings on of week 2 in Uganda:

Tuesday 14th August

Today the group were welcomed at Ebenezer schools and orphanage, Bugoye by Charity, the director. Charity has been a good friend of mine since we met when we were both around 17; it was lovely to continue our friendship in person.
They met children from the primary and secondary school and the orphanage who performed many things for them.
In the afternoon the team did some quick crafts with the children and introduced them to origami. The school gave the group some sugar cane which the team are keen to try after dinner.

Wednesday 15th August

The team travelled from Kasese to Kakumiro and are now at the hotel resting up for tomorrow.

Thursday 16th August

Today was results day and the team celebrated that Amy got into her uni of choice. In addition the results of my students were good.
The team spent the day at Blessings school with Julius and they performed some songs for them and the team showed them how to make cranes using origami and draw chickens by drawing round their hands. However there were only a few children as money is a struggle in the district due to high taxes and there have been kidnappings recently which have scared children away.
This afternoon the team met briefly with the pastors who are currently being trained with Romans 1:11 and offered words of encouragement ahead of time with them on Saturday. After this they had time for rest and recuperation before heading to Julius house for dinner. His wife Gloria is in labour with their 4th child but insisted we came so it may be an interesting evening!

Friday 17th August

Overnight Julius' wife had their 4th child despite cooking for the team the previous evening! As yet there is no name.
Today the group went to Osborne school and were welcomed with traditional dancing. Then they had presentations in assembly as is normal.
They then spent a good amount of time doing craft with the different classes and Stuart and Jon did a puppet show!
They then ate lunch at the school, after this they gave the students the bubbles, balls and frisbees.
They also went to see orphans who had been given piglets to help support them.

Saturday 18th August

Today the team split into two groups, Rachel, Jon, Stuart and Phoebe went to Kakumiro church and spent time with pastor's in training. They had lots of questions about weddings and marriages in the UK, aswell as scriptural queries.
Amy Liz and Judy explored the town buying fabrics and dresses then resting.
During the late afternoon the whole team went for a walk and came across a wedding procession complete with marching band and stretch limo - they must have been very rich!
We had interesting breakfast this morning, scrambled eggs ON toast and jam. The jam was the "American sour E number flavour".

Sunday 19th August

Today the team split in 3. Jon, Phoebe and Stuart went the furthest and preached at Duncan's church. Judy and I preached at Moses' church and Liz and Amy at Julius' church.
Everyone had a great time and those who were at Julius and Moses church met for lunch.
After lunch Julius took everyone to see where the trainee pastors sleep and they were surprised to see they were sharing mattresses and so new mattresses have been purchased. They also met Julius new baby although no name yet.
